I am sure many of you have had the curiosity at some point in your life about how your favorite video games are developed. But some years ago, the thought of creating a game on your own completely from scratch was rather daunting. But in 2022, some super awesome tools make game development just as easy and fun as playing them!
And since I’ve been developing games by myself, for the past 4 years now, I have learned quite a lot about different aspects of game development. And today, I will be sharing 5 great perks of creating a game all by yourself.
Control
One of the things that I absolutely love about developing a game is being able to control how I want my game to turn out. Which can be particularly difficult with a team of strangers working beside you. And while it does get hard wearing all the caps be it, game design, animation, or play testing, you still get to control how the game ends up playing. And with game development platforms like Crey, you can make your own game by simply playing around with pre-made assets without having to handle everything.
Flexibility
Another perk of developing a video game by yourself is that you get to create your personal timeline and choose the timing that works better for you. This helps you take breaks when needed and relax before you refocus your energy and concentration on the game. And for beginners, it’s really important to not lose creativity under pressure.
Creative Freedom
Speaking of creativity, many games with crazy ideas have mostly come from indie game developers and they have grown massively over the years. Names like Minecraft, Undertale, and Stardew Valley are all games developed by one person and they have outshined many AAA games because of their sheer creativity. And ideas like these are mostly carried by individual game developers and not a big team.
Fame And Finance
One of the biggest perks of making a game by yourself is you to get to keep all the credits to yourself. And if players download your game a ton of times and it ends up becoming a big hit in the gaming industry, you also get to enjoy all the revenue it generates. And while it’s not easy to make a hit game alone, there are platforms like Crey that can help make the process a lot easier.
Learning
Being a solo game developer is not easy and it takes a lot of time but at the same time, you get to learn a lot about the different aspects of developing and getting your game out in the real world. You get to learn about publishing, networking, marketing, play testing, and a ton of other things, which make you more prepared for your next project and the next one after that.
